A  Little History: At the height of their technology, mechanical musical instruments were capable of performing in exact detail the works of an author. The possibilities of a perfect restitution of a work, was particularly interesting for composers,  in that they could record and/or  have recorded (as did , Gershwin, Paderewsky, Corto, Rubinstein ...)  their own music while scrupulously controlling the result.
